CAMBRIDGE – Authorities said an attempted sexual assault in Cambridge can serve as a warning to others.
Mark Meech, 48, of Dexter is accused of going to a woman’s home on the Dexter Road Sunday afternoon after hiding a truck in a nearby field.
They said he knocked on the door claiming his truck was broken down and he wanted to use a phone to call for help. The woman opened the door far enough to pass the phone to Meech and that’s when officials said he grabbed her arm and forced his way inside.
They said he attempted to sexually assault the woman, but took off after a brief altercation only to be arrested at his home in Dexter Sunday.
Meech is now charged with burglary, attempted gross sexual assault and obstructing the reporting of a crime.
The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office said people should never open the door to strangers. They added it could be a scam or someone trying to break-in and they should instead talk to the person through the door and ask if they can make a call for them.
