WASHINGTON D.C. – Maine’s two senators are concerned about the escalating tension with North Korea.
It reached a new level this week after an intelligence report indicated the nation may have miniaturized a nuclear warhead that can fit into a ballistic missile.
President Trump warned further threats from North Korea will be met with fire fury and power, prompting a counter threat from North Korea that it may attack a U.S. base on Guam.
Senator Angus King said he’s worried the president’s rhetoric won’t help deescalate the tension and may put thousands of lives at risk.
Senator Susan Collins released a statement today saying she welcomes the administration’s success in securing of new economic sanctions against North Korea. She hopes with the backing of China, the sanctions will lead Kim Jong Un to curtail his extremely dangerous and destabilizing pursuit of nuclear weapons.
