BANGOR – With just a few weeks left before school starts, The United Way held a fill the school bus fundraising event Saturday. It was to help local kids in the greater Bangor area, as many families in Maine can’t afford to purchase school supplies.
This event coincides with Penquis’ “We Got Your Back Event,” which gives needy kids new backpacks for the upcoming school years.
Darling’s Ice Cream truck was also present at the event.
President and CEO of United Way of Eastern Maine Shirar Patterson said “We know that so many kids are starting school, maybe without the supplies that they need and that’s a difficult spot to be in for parents and for children. And we also know that teachers in our community are buying extra supplies to help these kids and we thought “why not do our best to help.”
All items will be distributed by Penquis on the 21st.
