NATIONWIDE – People across the state, country and world are wondering how they can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.
But beware, every time there’s a catastrophe scam artists come out of the woodwork.
The head of the Consumer Protection Division of the Office of Attorney General recommends reaching out to established charities.
Chief Linda Conti, Consumer Protection Division, stated “The charities that seem to pop up overnight that nobody’s heard of, that might call you, I’d be suspicious of them. And maybe think twice before giving to that kind of organization.”
If you have any questions about an organization’s legitimacy, call the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
Conti stressed just hang up if anyone calls saying they’re raising money for Hurricane Harvey victims and need your financial information.
