BANGOR – Bangor’s police department will step up the search for impaired drivers.
It plans to conduct OUI checkpoints and saturation patrols as part of the bureau of highway safety’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign.
Bangor police investigated 26 alcohol related crashes last year. They’ve already had 15 this year. In most of those cases people were hurt.
Police will be focusing much of their effort on locations where officers frequently encounter people driving under the influence.
There will be a big step up from now until September 4th and police will also be handing out pamphlets in an effort to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving.
