BANGOR – Mainers continue to join thousands of Red Cross volunteers in disaster relief efforts.
As of Thursday, 18 Maine Red Cross staff members were stationed in Texas and Lousiana helping those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
Volunteers from Maine said the pace is picking up and their divisions have been sending more people to help the affected areas.
Recovery efforts may take months and even years.
But the rain stopping has brought a ray of sunshine to the people of Houston, who volunteers said keep a bright outlook.
Red Cross volunteer Caroline King said “The spirit of the people of Texas is incredibly amazing, they are so resilient, have such beautiful attitudes, such beautiful spirit, and so thankful and so welcoming to all of the Red Cross volunteers here on the ground.”
