ORRINGTON – Folks in Orrington celebrated the town’s birthday last night!
Orrington is 230 years old, making it the oldest town in Penobscot County.
The party at the Grange Hall was hosted by the Orrington Historical Society. The celebration took things back to 1788 when the town’s charter was signed.
Historical society member, Dick Campbell, said: “Today the 20th the House of Representatives in Massachusetts signed it, tomorrow the 21st the Senate will sign it, and the governor, John Hancock will sign the charter so we are now 230 years old.”
Attendees were given the cake and a chance to hear the town’s charter read aloud.
This is all ahead of the Orrington “Old Home Week” celebration, which takes place in July.
