AUGUSTA – While the legislature handled numerous issues, union workers spoke next door about which bills they supported and opposed.
Speakers from the Maine AFL-CIO took turns voicing opposition to the state’s new tax code, which works to mirror some federal tax changes, as well as opposing a so-called “Right to Work” bill. As expected, they strongly supported the Downeast Correctional Facility remaining open, among other issues.
DCF employee Shawn Hatt stated “We’re hoping, we’re gaining some ground is what we’ve been told. We need at least two-thirds to override his veto, we’re hoping to do that.”
Earlier Tuesday, the group spoke with legislators in the State House to try to push their policy goals on what is called “Labor Lobby Day.”
