ROCKPORT (WGME) – A Rockport man is alive today after two good Samaritans rushed to pull him out of his sinking car.
The two Navy divers were in Rockland to pick up a motorcycle.
On their way back to Connecticut they ended up driving behind Jonathan Marr on Route 17. Marr veered off the road and into the lake. The two pulled over and sprang right into action. They said Marr wasn’t conscious when they first pulled him out of the water.
The entire incident only lasted a few minutes and they were happy to be there to help.
Petty Officer 3rd Class, Thomas Parhial, said: “Right before it happened I was mapping our way home on the GPS and there were two routes we could have taken and I just randomly picked this one because it was a longer more scenic way.”
Petty Officer 3rd Class, John McLead, added “There’s nothing really that prepares you for that you just have to do the right thing when it happens. And sure I guess diving into cold water all the time helps but it was still uncomfortable.”
Maine Medical Center wouldn’t give an update on Marr’s condition today.
Rockport police are still investigating how he went off the road in the first place.
