BANGOR – Bangor Beer Company brewed up some peace and harmony with their second-ever beer yoga class.
Thursday’s class took place right in the brewery, and each participant got their own pint.
Yoga instructor Geneva Gallant said it was a fun challenge incorporating the beer glasses into her yoga lesson.
“You’re going into it [a yoga class] to relax, and have fun and feel free-spirited,” said Gallant. “And don’t you feel the same way about beer?”
Thursday’s lesson sold out – just like their first beer yoga class.
One of the brewery co-founders said the idea came from his mom and fellow co-founder, who loves yoga herself.
“It’s pretty interesting trying to do poses with the glass in one hand,” said Bangor Beer Company Co-Founder Tyson Lo. “So it’s kind of interesting for us to watch in the brewery.”
The staff at the Bangor-based brewery and restaurant said beer yoga is a fun way to show community members the inner workings of the brewery – all while getting a work out and doing a little something for the spirit.
“It’s a great way to introduce people who might not have come here, to our brewery,” said head brewer Jared Lambert. “Or it’s a great way to introduce our clientele who are into beer, into yoga.”
The class was limited to about 20 people, so that the class could fit inside the brewery.
Participants said it was the ultimate balance test, doing yoga poses with a beer in hand.
“It was interesting,” said Lindy Morgan while laughing. “It was a different concept to have something in your hand and kind of pass it around but it was fun.”
Bangor Beer Company staff said with the early success of beer yoga, they’re planning on doing it again in about another month.
