AUBURN – Authorities are searching for the body of a five-year-old boy in the Androscoggin River after he and his brother fell into the water.
Deputy Chief Jason Moen with the Auburn Police Department spoke to our media partners in Portland, WGME, earlier Tuesday evening.
Police say two brothers, ages five and nine, from Auburn fell into the river around 7:00 Tuesday evening.
Auburn fire fighters were able to recover the body of the nine-year-old, who was flown by life-flight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
His condition is unknown at this time.
Maine wardens are helping local authorities with the ongoing search for the five-year-old.
Police say the parents of the children have been notified.
The incident is still under investigation.
