BELFAST – There are two big changes underway at the belfast municipal airport.
The changes will improve safety for aircraft exiting the runway after landing and add a self-serve airplane fuel dispenser that takes credit and debit cards.
A partial parallel taxiway project will add a measure of safety to the airport, whicih currently lacks them.
The proposed fuel farm will enable pilots to purchase fuel at the airport for the first time in several years.
The city recently selected Lane Construction for the $4 million taxiway expansion and is borrowing the money to build the fuel farm so it can be up and running this summer.
City officials expect to get a Federal Aviation Administration Grant to cover most of the cost connected to the fuel service.
