BANGOR – Hollywood Casino in Bangor will be donating $1 to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life for every pint sold of a new beer called “E-Rad-I-Cate”. The casino collaborated with Geaghan Brothers Brewing to make the beer, which will be available at a restaurant in the casino – Hops House 99.
The beer got its name because casino staff and brewers are trying to eradicate cancer.
“You never know what dollar puts the research over the top right?” said Jose Flores, the vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino. “So every dollar matters.”
Brewery staff turned out for the beer’s launch party. The event also featured speakers and live music.
“Whenever we can make a new, cool beer it’s awesome,” said Andrew Geaghan, an owner and brewer of Geaghan Brothers Brewing, “but then if that beer can go to a charitable cause that is near and dear to our hearts as well, it’s a win.”
Hollywood Casino’s general manager said they’re supporting cancer research because the disease affects everyone.
“Whether it be a family member, a friend, a colleague,” said Flores, “it touches us very personally. And we just really wanted to find a way that we could help give back.”
The new brew is a sessions IPA. Brewers said it’s light, subtly fruity, and layered with local Maine malts.
“I mean we’re Maine guys, so we’re Maine folks,” said Geaghan, “and we love to support local farmers.”
E-Rad-I-Cate is a limited-edition brew. It will only be available through August.
“We’ve signed on to brew as much of it as we need and hopefully we just have to keep making it, making it, making it for a good cause,” said Geaghan.
As for Relay for Life, Hollywood Casino will be hosting it at Bangor Raceway. It’s the first time the fundraiser relay will be in Bangor. The event kicks off on May 18.
