STONINGTON – Maine Marine Patrol officers have confirmed a Stonington fisherman was killed in a commercial boating accident Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Troy Dow with the Maine Marine Patrol said the body of 60-year-old Wayne “Butch” Ciomei of Stonington was found west of Marshall Island in Jericho Bay Friday afternoon.
Sgt. Dow said Ciomei last made contact with his family around 11:00 a.m.
Ciomei’s son called officers around 4:30 p.m. saying his father was late coming home.
Officers say Ciomei, a long-time fisherman, usually fished alone.
Officers believe Ciomei may have become tangled in a line and drowned, but the exact cause of Ciomei’s death is unknown.
The Coast Guard is investigating the incident, as it does in most commercial boating accidents.
