HERMON – The winners have been announced in the state’s annual truck driving championships.
Ken Duncan from Gorham was the overall winner having the highest combined score.
Saturday’s competition in Hermon had three components a written test, vehicle inspection, and a driving skills test, 79 drivers from across the state competed.
The different obstacles simulate real-world driving challenges with added twists like backing up in tight areas, hairpin turns, and scale stops.
PFA transport and airfreight driver Jack Roussel said, “Normally they tell us to stay far away from obstacles so we don’t hit them and once a year we bring our skills to see how close we can get to something without hitting a barrier or obstacle and for bragging rights!”
Along with the overall winner, the nine winners from each truck class will represent Maine at the national competition.
The national truck driving championships will be in Columbus, Ohio in August.
