BREWER – A busy intersection in Brewer was shut down late Wednesday evening as crews battled a building fire.
The call came in around 8:00 Wednesday evening for a structure fire at 18 North Main Street.
Authorities arrived to find flames showing from a third floor apartment.
The one woman living in that residence escaped unharmed.
Authorities shut down the Joshua Chamberlain bridge and portions of North Main Street to fight the blaze.
“Obviously it’s a challenging scene dealing with traffic,” said Brewer Public Safety Director Jason Moffitt. “Other than that they seem to have attacked it pretty quickly and seem to have it under control at this point.”
Crews got the fire under control by shortly after 9:00 p.m.
The damaged building is also home to Penobscot Property Management.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, including Brewer and Bangor.
Officials have not yet released the cause of the fire or if they consider it suspicious at this time.
