DAY BLOCK TOWNSHIP – A reward is being offered following the death of a bald eagle found in Washington County.
Someone found the eagle in a bucket along Chain Lake Boulevard in Day Block Township, which is located near the town of Wesley. State game officials had the animal X-rayed.
It appears the eagle had been shot with a shotgun and discarded along the side of the road. Based on the condition of the remains, officials believe it was killed several weeks ago.
Under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to a conviction. Maine’s Operation Game Thief is offering an additional $1,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
