BANGOR – Some local softball sluggers trying to strike out cancer.
The seventh annual team Mimi softball tournament was held Saturday in Bangor.
The event is part of the champion of the cure challenge and raises money for local cancer research.
Tommy Hosmer started the fundraiser at ten years old after his grandmother died of ovarian cancer.
Since then he’s raised more than 60-thousand dollars.
Founder of team Mimi Tommy Hosmer said, “I saw what it did to my family so I don’t want other families to have to go through what our family went through…it’s crazy to me that it’s come this far. I wouldn’t be able to do it without the help of the community.”
The team Mimi softball tournament also had food and a dunk tank.
Event organizers say they were hoping to raise around 7 or 8 thousand dollars.
