CARMEL – An adult loon is safe thanks to the efforts of a state police trooper and a Maine game warden.
Officials said Monday that a person traveling on Interstate 95 in Carmel spotted the bird on the north side of the highway and called for help.
Trooper Andrew Pierson went to the scene and kept the bird detained until Warden Jim Fahey arrived. They discovered the loon was slightly hurt.
They packed the loon into an animal carrier and brought it to nearby Etna Pond, where it was released in a much safer place.
