JONESPORT – The Sunrise Care facility in Jonesport will be closing.
Downeast Community Hospital announced plans to close the nursing home in August.
In a prepared statement, hospital CEO Dennis Welsh cited longtime losses, low census, insufficient MaineCare reimbursements and increased regulations as some of the reasons for the closure.
Welsh said those factors, coupled with an aging building, frequently brought about discussions about the sustainability of the facility.
A statement about the closing said Downeast Community Hospital will assist with resident placement in other area nursing facilities and that is will help employees by identifying job opportunities at other facilities and on-site job fairs.
