BANGOR – Chefs from across Maine are busy perfecting their recipes ahead of a wing competition this weekend – including the defending champs from Husson University.
A number of local chefs will be competing against each other during Saturday’s Best of the North Festival.
Held on the Bangor waterfront, the festival combines local wings, beer and wine so there’s something for everybody.
But for competitors, a lot of time and effort goes into creating the tastiest, potentially award-winning wings.
Just ask the chefs at husson, who hope their layered approach will help them defend their title.
“They come in sweet, and you think oh, that’s nice. Then they get a little savory and smoky and you;re thinking wow this is over, that’s an incredible wing, and then, it bites you, and bites you hard,” Husson University Executive Chef David Shultz said.
A handful of judges — including Channel 7’s Kayla Fish — will taste and rate five different categories of wings.
The Best of the North fest runs from noon to 4 p.m. The winners of the wing competition will be announced around 3:15 p.m.
