BANGOR – It appears that there will be two candidates on the November ballot for district attorney for both Penobscot and Piscataquis counties.
When longtime District Attorney R. Christopher Almy decided not to seek re-election, he nominated Bangor Republican Marianne Lynch.
Now another Bangor attorney has decided to get his name out there as well.
Born and raised in Bangor, Democrat Joseph Belisle said he believes that he could make a difference.
“Well, I’ve been doing, practicing for 10 years, doing a lot of criminal defense, working a lot with disadvantaged people in the area, both in criminal defense and child protective work,” Belisle said.
In order for a write-in candidate to appear on the ballot, he or she needs to gather at least 300 signatures. Belisle said through calling town officials, he found he has at least 309 votes, with those from Bangor making up nearly half of them.
Until Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap certifies the votes, however, there are no official results.
