ELLSWORTH – A New York man remained at Hancock County Jail Wednesday, a day after his arrest on numerous charges — including kidnapping.
According to Ellsworth police Capt. Troy Bires, 63-year-old Michael Palmatier was arrested around noon Tuesday at the Acadia Village Resort. Bires said Palmatier allegedly had been holding a 64-year-old New York woman captive in a room at the resort since Jan. 4.
The police captain said New York police had arrested Palmatier on similar charges on Christmas Eve in an Incident involving the same woman.
A Hancock County judge set bail for Palmatier on Wednesday.
Bires said the alleged victim recently underwent surgery for cancer and was in a wheelchair. He said that Palmatier allegedly assaulted the woman while she was held captive.
Bires said the victim somehow made contact with a resort employee, who then contacted police.
