BANGOR – Two suspicious packages left at the Penobscot County Jail Tuesday prompted a call to the Bangor Police Department.
Authorities said they received a call from the jail after an unknown man dropped off two packages in the jail’s lobby and left right after.
Officials said the police department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, or bomb squad, was called to the scene around 10 a.m.
“They came down and were able to safely approach and determine neither package contained explosive material,” said Bangor Police Sgt. Wade Betters.
Police said they could not immediately release whether the packages were addressed to anyone specific.
The incident remains under investigation. Officials said there is no threat to the public.
