BREWER – The regional competitions of the Maine Drama Festival took place Saturday all across the state.
Nine regional competitions were held. Our news team caught up with the Brewer regional competition at their afternoon session.
At the Brewer Performing Arts Center, drama students from Bucksport, Old Town, Hermon, Waterville, and more competed.
Saturday in Brewer, the winner for Class A was Hermon High School, and for Class B was Central High School.
The plays, which have to be under forty minutes, are judged and scored, but event organizers said it’s a worthwhile experience for all the participants.
“Whether they plan on going into it as a career or not, the confidence that it gives them, the poise, the ability to get up onstage and take chances that most of their peers wouldn’t do, I think it’s invaluable,” said Rich Kimball, a director for Brewer’s competition.
The best scorers from Class A and Class B each go on to a state finals competition in a couple weeks.
