BANGOR – Nearly 200 people sampled chili and chowder for a great cause Friday night.
The seventh annual chili and chowder cook-off presented by the Bangor Professional Firefighters took place in a packed room at Hollywood Casino.
More than 40 entries, both professional and amateur, were submitted into cook-off benefiting the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Maine.
Bangor firefighter Jared Bowden said the event is one of many that help Bangor firefighters raise money for the MDA.
“We’re hoping to raise between $4,000 and $5,000 tonight for MDA which will kick off our 2019 fundraiser. Last year, we were the No. 1 fundraiser in the northeast United States, everything from basically new jersey north. We raised over $48,000,” Bowden said.
Bowden said the goal for this year is to raise at least $50,000.
