STATEWIDE – As some infectious diseases have been confirmed in Maine, doctors want people to make sure their children get vaccinated.
Recently, the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention released a statement saying it has confirmed a case of the mumps in York County.
Maine CDC also reported there were 95 confirmed cases of whooping cough within the first two months of 2019 in Maine.
Hospital officials at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center are now urging parents to take their children to get vaccinated if they have not already done so.
“We think that that’s the strongest, best effective way to prevent the spread of the disease and more importantly, to protect the health and well being of all of our citizens,” said Dr. James Jarvis, the hospital’s senior physician executive.
Jarvis said in some cases, these diseases can lead to death and the best way to lifelong immunity is through vaccinations.
