BANGOR – An assignment has turned into a labor of love for a group of University of Maine nursing students.
While Caroline Bush, Brooke Hammond, Lauren Martin and Jordan Richards were completing their pediatric clinical rotation at Northern Light E.M.M.C., they overheard their instructor apologizing to the parent of a patient for not having pajamas to fit their child.
That’s when they decided to take donations to provide new pajamas for the children in the pediatric unit.
So far, they have taken in enough to provide more than 500 pairs of pajamas to patients.
“If you have some pajamas, it just might make you feel better. It might make you feel like you’re not necessarily in that hospital setting,” said Bush.
“We want to promote healing and comfortability for those pediatric patients,” Hammond said.
“And improve their experience while they’re hospitalized,” said Martin.
According to the students, support has been so overwhelming, they’re continuing to take donations in hopes of being able to expand their effort to others in need.
To make a donation, contact Dr. Kelly Strout at [email protected]. You can also mail a donation, by check, to Caroline Bush, 77 Emerald Road, Holden, ME 04429.
You will receive, in the mail, a receipt and a list of items purchased with your donation.
