ORONO – For the last nine years, volunteers have been building and maintaining the Orono Bog Boardwalk. Help is needed this weekend to help get the boardwalk ready for its opening day later this month.
Director Jim Bird said 47 old sections of boardwalk are being taken out and replaced with new ones.
Bird said this has been an ongoing project since supporters first began raising money for the boardwalk in 2010.
“It’s been a great feeling. A lot, a lot of people have helped out. Scores and scores of people. Thousands of hours of volunteer labor so we’ve done a really good job. I think by mid-July when we do our grand opening, it will be really nice,” Bird said.
Bird said this weekend’s work will involve some heavy lifting.
