BANGOR – A rite of passage that can be traced back to the 12th century was observed at Husson University Friday afternoon.
Students graduating in the nursing program were welcomed into the profession with a traditional pinning ceremony.
Fifty-eight bachelor of science in nursing, nine registered nurses and 20 masters of science in nursing graduates participated in Friday’s ceremony.
“Their loved ones actually get to pin them so not only do they get to celebrate with their loved ones, they actually put their Husson University masters of nursing or bachelors of the nursing pin on their loved one as they come across the stage,” said Donna Beuk, chairperson of the Husson School of Nursing.
There is a shortage of nurses in the state that is expected to get worse over the next several years.
