BANGOR – People have been working all year to make sure Bangor Pride runs smoothly next month.
Nominations are now open for the annual Rainbow Awards, which recognize those who have supported the region’s LGBTQ community. Categories include those dedicated to racial justice, environmental protection and creativity.
“Instead of having parade marshals each year, what we do instead is have Rainbow Awards, so it allows us to celebrate more members of the community for a variety of different things who impact the queer community and the Greater Bangor area,” Bangor Pride Co-Chair Nik Sparlin said.
“We have a couple different awards. Each representing a color of the pride flag. It’s just a way for us to give back,” said Sarah Haas, LGBTQ community organizer for the Health Equity Alliance.
Nominations close on Saturday. A link to nominate people can be found on the Bangor Pride Festival’s Facebook page.
