BANGOR – The American Red Cross is critically low on Type O blood.
Red Cross blood banks are distributing Type O blood to hospitals faster than donations are being received, said Caroline King, executive director of Red Cross of Northern and Eastern Maine.
King said right now only a two-day supply of Type O blood is available.
“We usually like to keep a five-day supply and so two days makes us very nervous. You know, that just barely meets the regular need let alone if there’s a big emergency,” King said.
As a special thank you, Red Cross officials said they are offering donors a $5 Amazon gift care. That offer is valid through June 10.
