BANGOR – City Council Chairwoman Sarah Nichols signed a proclamation Monday night declaring Pride Week in Bangor.
Pride Week will start on June 16 and festivities will include a rainbow run, worship services, and a Pride parade.
It will also include a memorial for Charlie Howard, who was murdered for his sexuality in 1984.
“We are welcoming. We want everyone to be who they are and exactly how they feel as their true selves. I think that’s something that’s very ‘Bangor’ now and I think it’s important to celebrate it,” Nichols said.
One of the week’s biggest events is the parade and festival, which will take place on Main Street on June 22.
