SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Acadia Family Center has recently been awarded grants by two local foundations. A grant of $4,000 from the Stroud Fund at St. Mary & St. Jude will support the AFC Drug & Alcohol Prevention/Education Program at the four middle schools on Mt. Desert Island; and a $5,000 grant from the Hattie A. & Fred C. Lynam Trust will support the AFC scholarship program, which allows people to receive treatment even if they cannot afford the full fee for services
“These two programs are the bedrock of our mission,” said Daniel Johnson, AFC Executive Director. “For 35 years we’ve been dedicated to providing prevention education to young people on MDI, the outer islands, and surrounding communities. Equally important is our pledge to help people get the services they need regardless of their ability to pay.”
The Acadia Family Center provides prevention, education, and outpatient services for adolescents, adults, and families affected by substance abuse, chemical dependency, and related mental health disorders.
