AUGUSTA – A bill that would prohibit minors from using tanning beds hit a road block today.
The State Senate voted eighteen to seventeen against the bill that was sponsored by Bangor Democratic Senator Geoffrey Gratwick.
The bill came to the Senate with a split vote from the Health and Human Services Committee. Nine other states have similar bans in place.
Gratwick said he was disappointed that his colleagues across the aisle, quote -” put politics ahead of medical science and the health of our kids ” – end quote. A similar measure last year received broad support from the Senate and the House but was vetoed by Governor Paul LePage.
The latest bill now goes to the House for consideration.
