AUGUSTA – A measure aimed at allowing a statewide network of libraries to be exempt from sales tax was vetoed be the Governor.
The bill would have affected libraries that are part of the Maine Infonet collaborative. It allows public, school, community college, and university libraries to share resources .
Proponents of the measure say it makes no sense to have an organization that’s funded by tax payer dollars paying sales tax. And sponsors of the bill say the Governor’s veto makes no sense.
The senate will likely take up the veto override tomorrow. Two-thirds vote is needed to override Lepage.
