BANGOR – The manager at the Howard Johnson’s restaurant in Bangor says there’s a possibility the 49-year-old eatery may close.
Julie Jewett didn’t want to go on camera but said the restaurant’s future was definitely up in the air. It is one of the last two Howard Johnson’s left in the country.
The other one is in Lake George, New York. The Bangor HoJos opened in 1966. The Howard Johnson’s chain started in 1925 in Quincy, Massachusetts. Restaurants quickly spread across the country and were located primarily along the interstate.
The restaurants were well known for their fried clams and 28 flavors of ice cream.
