FREEPORT – The Maine Tourism Association is pleased to announce the recipient of their 2015 Hall of Fame Award. The Maine Tourism Association is Maine’s oldest and largest tourism organization representing nearly 1500 members throughout Maine. The award will be presented at the Maine Tourism Association’s 94th Annual Meeting and Awards Luncheon being held Friday, May 15th at the Harraseeket Inn in Freeport.
The prestigious Hall of Fame Award is presented to Vaughn Stinson, former CEO of the Maine Tourism Association. The award is presented annually by the association to an individual who has demonstrated a long-term positive impact on Maine largest industry.
Mr. Stinson arrived early in 1998 to lead the struggling Maine Tourism Association and, through his tireless efforts and leadership, the Maine Tourism Association became the voice of tourism not only in the committee rooms of the state legislature, but in every nook and cranny of the state. Before coming to Maine, Mr. Stinson had an exceptional prior career in the aviation industry and as Tourism Director for the State of Mississippi.
Vaughn has been at the forefront of the industry’s challenges and successes for nearly two decades and was instrumental in creating the Maine Hospitality & Tourism Alliance, a coalition of state-wide tourism association leaders that endeavor to represent Maine’s tourism industry with a clear and consistent message to the Maine legislature and state government agencies. Vaughn was also instrumental in the creation of the Tourism Marketing and Promotion Fund, providing a consistent and sustainable source of funding for the Office of Tourism to promote Maine as a world class destination.
The Maine Tourism Association is pleased to honor Vaughn Stinson for his many years of dedication and commitment to the Maine Tourism Association and Maine’s hospitality and tourism industry.
