OLD TOWN – A fire in Old Town created a lot of smoke, but no major damage. It was around 10:30 this morning when crews were called to the Expera Mill when flames erupted near the number four turbine.
Fortunately the sprinkler system kicked in and kept the flames down until local fire crews could snuff out all the hot spots.
Old Town Fire Captain Mike Hildreth said, “doesn’t look to be too bad. i saw a warped floor grate where the fire was underneath. I dont believe any heavy machinery was damaged and it was kept to that small area’.
Officials suspect a broken oil or hydraulic line caused the fire.
No injuries were reported and the fire scene was turned back over to the mill in about a half hour.
