AUGUSTA – A bi-partisan group of lawmakers wants to boost Maine’s internet speed.
Sponsors say the bill would require a plan to expand broadband access across the state. Stating its crucial for Maine’s future economic success.
“It pushes everyone to get to places where they might not be already. So municipal broadband, could it be an option? It could. But private co’s coming in where they havent already? Absolutely that could happen too.” Rep. Sarah Gideon Asst. Majority Leader
They say it would help bring communities in private partners, get federal funding,and grants. The committee will make a recommendation to full legislature after its work session.
