ORONO – There was something fishy going on at the UMaine Orono campus on Sunday morning.
It was the first-ever Spawning Run 5-k. Several dozen people turned out for the inaugural event, donning their best fish costume.
The event helped to raise money for the UMaine American Fisheries Society, with all proceeds benefiting efforts to bring fisheries and aquatic science into local schools. There were prizes for the top 3 finishers and best costume.
About $500 was raised, and organizers hope to make this an annual event.
