AUGUSTA – Lawmakers also considering a bill to remove guns from a person dangerous to themselves or others.
It would create a temporary order lasting 21 days. Supporters say it allows opportunity for police and loved ones to get a decision on whether to remove firearms.
However, it would have to be proven the person was dangerous.
“We often say after a gun tragedy, especially inside the family, if only we intervened. We often say we have to do something about mental health and its relationship with firearms. This bill is an opportunity to have that conversation.” Mark Dion, (D) – Portland
The bill will move next to a work session.
