STATEWIDE – Maine is home to 97-percent of the wild brook trout habitat in the Eastern US, but there are still hundreds of remote ponds that have never been surveyed by biologists.
That’s why the department of inland fisheries and wildlife needs your help. They’re looking for volunteers to fish remote locations and coastal streams and report back to the department about what they catch. Officials say it’s the first step in a 2 phase project.
“Based on that information we determine if it’s worth our while, to do a formal survey, point us in the right direction.” Merry Gallagher, Research Fisheries Biologist
Surveys need to be completed before the end of September.
