AUGUSTA – Governor Paul LePage is asking that people urge their lawmakers to support his bill that would eliminate the state’s income tax.
Today, the bill will be presented during a public hearing to the taxation committee. The governor is proposing a constitutional amendment that would eliminate income tax and prohibit legislature from enacting any future income tax. It would require a two-thirds vote from legislature, and approval of Maine voters in November.
The governor has been pitching his plan through town hall meetings across the state. The public hearing begins at 1 o’clock.
