The Newport Fire Department responded to a call this morning about a truck that was in flames.
The engine of the logging truck overheated, causing the entire front of the truck to catch fire.
The driver was forced to leave the truck on Pratt Road as the fire spread.
Lieutenant Adam Noyes said, “the driver claims that he worked his truck pretty hard in the woods loading the load, and it overheated on the way out. So he actually stopped there and shut the truck off to give it time to cool down and while it was cooling down it actually caught fire sitting there.”
Fire fighters were able to put the fire out fairly quickly. They are thankful that it didn’t spread to the wood on the back of the truck.
The truck appears to be a total loss.
