BELFAST- Large companies like Bank of America and Athena Health have been moving to Belfast, creating many benefits in the area. And now, another big company is on the way.
“I’m excited about this company coming, I’m excited about all the companies we’ve had come. We’re open for business here in Belfast, and it’s a great community, and Belfast is open for them,” said Walter Ash, Mayor of Belfast.
The newest addition to Belfast is OnProcess Technology, a large global company out of Massachusetts. The company has just signed a five year lease, and the expansion is expected to create around 300 jobs.
“Maine and Company, which is a firm that really specializes in out of state business attraction, they’re the ones that first brought the opportunity to the city of Belfast and we started having discussions late last year,” said Thomas Kittredge, Economic Development Director in Belfast.
In addition to creating jobs for hundreds of Maine residents, opening big companies like on process will create more diversity in Belfast and add to its up-and-coming trend.
“And to have another employer in the MBNA facility, to have some diversity, to have many sizable employers is generally advisable versus having one really big employer,” said Kittredge.
The city is welcoming the company with open arms, and believes it will grow and thrive in Belfast.
“We’re just thrilled. I’m saying it in a nutshell, we are thrilled that we attracted this and the whole state of Maine is changing, it’s attracting more business. It’s all good,” said Ash.
A job fair will be held this Wednesday, May 20th from 10am to 7pm and Thursday, May 21st from 9am to 5pm at the Hutchison Center in Belfast.
