BANGOR — May 10-16 was Hospital Week, and the highlight for Acadia Hospital employees was the annual Employee Recognition Event, held on May 14.
The celebration included a delicious lunch, and featured guest speaker Bangor Police Chief Mark Hathaway. He shared insights into how the police department has adapted over the years, and highlighted the fact that a heightened awareness of the needs of those living with a mental illness has vastly improved his department’s ability to handle difficult situations. He thanked Acadia employees for the work they perform, and Acadia Hospital for providing Mental Health Liaison Dave Tremble, who assists officers who are handling cases involving mentally ill individuals. Finally, Chief Hathaway recognized Acadia Chief Medical Officer Anthony Ng, MD, for acting as a vital and timely resource to the Bangor Police Department.
The event continued, with employees being recognized for years of service, in five year increments. The final part of the program saw various employees from different disciplines being recognized for excellence from their peers.
The Peer Excellence Award winners for 2015 are:
Nurse—Alfreda Mouland, GNP; Psychiatric
Technician – Earle Rice; Clinician – Suzanne Drake, LADC; Ancillary – Electrician Glenn White; Physician – Clifford Singer, MD.
“It’s important to take time and appreciate all the people who make Acadia’s mission of empowering people to improve their lives a reality on a daily basis,” commented Acadia President and CEO Daniel B. Coffey. “It was also great to have Chief Hathaway speak, as partnerships with other community organizations only help to create a safer environment for people living with a mental illness.”
