AUGUSTA – An attempt to fund a cold case squad in Maine is moving forward.
The Maine senate voted unanimously Tuesday to advance the bill. Last year lawmakers passed a bill to create the Cold Case Homicide Squad but did not receive the money needed to fund it.
This most recent bill would provide funding for two detectives and a forensic chemist to work the state’s 70 unsolved homicides.
The bill is expected to be approved by the house as well. The future of the squad still will be in the hands of the appropriations committee.
They will have to decide if they can find a way to fund those positions.
