PORTLAND – The right person at the right time.
That’s what Senator Angus King is saying about Glenn Cummings who has been selected to become the next president of the University of Southern Maine.
The University System announced today that Cummings was picked to head the university after Harvey Kesselman decided to turn down the job.
He plans to remain as president of Stockton University in New Jersey.
Cummings, a former speaker of the Maine House and current president of Umaine at Augusta will be the fourth president of USM in four years.
Senator King says Cummings will help lead the school to new heights following several years that brought budget shortfalls, declining enrollment and the elimination of programs and faculty positions to save money.
