STATEWIDE – National Boating Safety Week has the Maine Marine Patrol, the Warden Service, and the US coast guard joining forces to talk about how to hit the water responsibly.
There’s a lot of focus this year on wearing life jackets. Coast guard statistics show about 85 percent of drowning deaths happen when people aren’t wearing one.

They’re always required for kids and sometimes adults too…DEPENDING On the activity you’re doing.
Officials are also reminding people to make sure their gear works the way it should and avoid boating while drunk.
